a child's funeral

When Kieran died of a genetic degenerative condition just before his second birthday, his parents wanted a funeral for him that reflected his age and his 'perfect little life' - not an adult funeral for a child. We were able to tell them about a beautiful woodland burial site nearby.

They wanted a beautiful space, a child's room, full of bright colours, his favourite things and surrounded by windmills and ribbons. We helped them to hire a yurt in which to hold the ceremony. As you can see from the pictures, the family decorated it beautifully.

His ceremony, held by an independent funeral celebrant, was mainly made up of words and music written and adapted by family and friends. There was plenty to say about Kieran because he had deeply moved many people. His Dad and friends lowered Kieran's handmade coffin into its final place of rest, and to signify freeing his spirit from his body colourful balloons were released. This simple act was very powerful and everyone stood and watched until the last balloon went out of site.
