Gwen died suddenly at 83. Very organised and always one to help others, she had taken out a funeral plan for a cremation with the local funeral director, but her family didn't want to hold the ceremony at the crematorium.
They were able to decide to hold the ceremony in her home, a place she loved - full of all the things she's collected over the years. The funeral director brought her body in a beautifully decorated wicker coffin for the ceremony on Saturday morning. A very family-orientated funeral was held. The eleven grandchildren lit a candle each for her - there wasn't a dry eye in the house!
When the ceremony was over the funeral director came back to collect her and everyone stayed for a buffet of her favourite foods, and the obligatory glass of sherry. Her cremation was set for first thing on the Monday morning and was attended just by her three sons.
