our aim

nbft was founded in response to a need, for dying and bereaved people to have access to impartial information, advice and support. With clear information it is possible for families to make vital decisions, which will influence the funeral arrangements and ceremony. When the family has been personally involved in the decision making, rather than following a standard procedure, the funeral can be transformed into a meaningful and heartfelt ritual which will soothe and comfort those left behind and help enormously with long-term feelings of loss and grief.

Health and social care professionals have an important role to play here.

nbft helps by training healthcare and social care professionals and volunteers to inform families of their main choices at this time. The courses are relevant for nursing and social care staff, bereavement officers, chaplains, clinicians, counsellors, allied health professionals, volunteers and all those with patient and family contact in hospitals, hospices, care homes, bereavement groups and local authorities.
